The Pastry Question That Divides France
There has been a disagreement, dividing France for centuries probably: how to call this delicious viennoiserie?
While we call it a chocolate croissant, it is either called a “Pain au chocolat” or a “Chocolatine” in France.
It basically depends on the region. They call it a “Chocolatine” in the South West, while the rest call it a “Pain au Chocolat”. If you go to France, be careful where you are and call it the right term or you might be exposed to very severe looks!
Anyways, at Atelier Monnier, we call it a Chocolate croissant and it tastes amazing, which is what matters most, right?
